It's not often I don't want a book to end, but this is definitely one of those. The audiobook version is beautifully recorded, both by Saunders and by the actors reading the single stories. Needless to say the essays are excellent and I wish I could give this book much more than five stars.

Like being in an MFA writing class. Very good but very much like school. Loved the last chapter.

Great book, love George Saunders, and love the old Russian short story writers. His narration is so readable and personable, especially at the beginning, which gets you over the hump of starting the book, through the short stories, and over to his own interesting thoughts. Very generous, enthusiastic.

P.S. Love the cover art and title.

Not only a great study of reading fiction deeply, but also simply a great introduction to the classic Russian short story genre. I wish I could read a Saunders essay after every literary piece I consume.
