I loved listening to Sophie Go have her much-deserved found family and find her footing in life. Each of the seven old ducks has a unique and wholesome characterization. However, Sophie's mother was a destructive stormcloud in the heartwarming tale. Every time that Sophie has a soft win in life, Sophie's mother on cue is there to ruin it all. Roselle Lim's writing had me appalled at the sheer audacity and toxicity in a single woman, especially with the enabling behaviour of her father. At times, I related to Sophie and felt empathy for her. At least Sophie has her Old Ducks to support her.

I also loved the descriptions of Toronto and the mouth-watering food mentioned in the book. The magical realism was a nice touch as well. The romance was sweet, but not the main plot. I would have binged in a single day if I had the physical book.

I look forward to reading more of Roselle Lim's works.

It’s an adorable and engaging story with lovable characters and antagonist who sparks real rage.

I liked that this book was about found family, but I also kept wishing for things to smooth over with her parents. I felt like they were vilified and there was no closure. I also did not feel the attraction between the protagonist and love interest.

DNFd around 33%. This book was tedious. I never found myself looking forward to reading it. The characters aren’t memorable. The only one I had a strong feeling about was the main character’s mom who’s a total “see you next Tuesday.” I kept waiting for anything to happen but nothing did and frankly, there are too many good books out there to waste my time being bored.

Roselle Lim did a fantastic job of mixing heartbreaking topics alongside a novel that was heartwarming. Adding in the amazing ability to describe food that made me wishing I was eating alongside it, I am now digging into Lim's backlist wondering what I have missed.

I received an ecopy of this book via Netgalley; however, my opinions are my own.

This book had me bawling my eyes out for several straight chapters. The main character, Sophie, deals with painful familial relationships and challenges what it means to be loved and who family truly is.
I'd also like to say, the use of names in here is adorable. AND having geriatric Asian men be the supporting characters really made the book too.

Absolutely recommend.
