I read this book in grad school. LOVED it!! The movie does NOT do it justice.

This probably would have been five stars, except that the ending was a bit too abrupt! It was a thoroughly enjoyable book, and a great exploration of obedience, consent, and agency. Definitely recommend. That said, if your child is reading it, they may get a bit of a hyped up expectation of love- Prince Char is, indeed, almost TOO perfect. And dreamy. ;-)

I reread this book for nostalgia purposes. It was really the height of "I'm not like other girls," but I still enjoyed it.

What would you do if you were forced to do whatever you were told to do?

Ella is a cheeky girl would is forced to obey even the most simplest tasks. I read this book when I was younger and thought that the character is smart, strong, and determined to solve her problem "gifted" to her by a fairy. A similar story to cinderella, in that she has evil stepmother and sisters. But finds her strength is entirely within.

A nice little read, this was! I was pleasantly surprised!

I've seen the movie, many years ago, and remember not being very impressed, but a little bit amused. When coming across this book in the library, I thought 'Why not?'

As stated before, I was pleasantly surprised.

Ella was a likable character and even though the plot was not the most exciting, I still felt that there was never a dull moment. There was humor and sweet moments, some sad ones and not nearly enough fantasy elements for my taste, though the concept of the ogres was really interesting! Yet I somehow found myself with a small smile on my face during almost the whole book. I'm smiling as I'm writing this review. Makes me wonder if I might be under some sort of spell too, but it's probably all because of the engaging writing and the fairytale atmosphere of the book.

Certainly not the best book I've read and perhaps not the most original in a sense ("evil" stepsisters, a fairy godmother and a Prince only a couple of letters away from having the name 'Charming'), but an enjoyable read nonetheless!

Really cute story, and fun for all ages! Although I did watch the movie first, I think the book is different in its own way and I enjoy both formats.
