This is a wonderful little book, telling the story of a PR campaign to reject to open competition in Norwegian postal services (of all things). But as with any book worth its salt it is actually about a lot more than that, it is about disconnection, the difficulty of relationships and the value of finding something that you truly care about, also I tend to approve of it because it is the first piece of culture I've ever read which paints my business in a sympathetic light.
This felt like an answer to Houellebecqian pessimism. Down with the third EU postal directive! Long Live the post horn!

Slow getting started, but ultimately picks up. Once again I am really impressed with the ability of this translator to capture the voice of the narrator, as she progresses from apathy and despair into optimism and enthusiasm.
Incredible: a gentle but entirely convincing immersion into a woman's alienated world and then - as you turn with the story and experience the shocks and decisions that mark a life - into that woman's bloom into sudden life: reconnection with family, labour, politics, herself - and to the post office. Long live the post horn!
