This had me guessing for days!
I love a good “who done it?” as much as anybody but thus first Eva Rae book was awesome. Made me smile, laugh, get upset, and confused, even cry. I can’t wait to read Book 2!

Exciting. Twists a plenty. I would give this a 4.5*, but I don’t like when the reveal is out of no where and the reader has not been given any clue to the killer.
When Eva Rae Thomas' husband abruptly leaves the family for another woman, she quits her job at the FBI and moves south to Cocoa Beach to be near her parents. Her ex was the stay at home parent, while Eva brought home the bacon and the move is showing her just how inadequate she is to take care of her three children.
Not long after the move, children start turning up dead in her hometown and Eva gets pulled into the investigation into a serial killer. Add an old boyfriend on the local police force into the mix and a cold mother who is hiding major secrets, this book is complicated from the get go. Too complicated. There is too much going on IMO. This is not a bad mystery. It is just an average one and the red herrings thrown to distract don't seem to really add to the narrative. There is also a very big reveal that should have evoked more emotion in the aftermath and it was just treated as a kind of..."oh well." I would round down and give this a 2.5.

I didn't care for the ending, it felt rushed and just out of nowhere but not it good way
Fast Read
This was a good quick read. After the first couple chapters I couldn’t put it down. I also liked that I didn’t guess the killer before the end.

If you've read the synopsis, you know there are children coming up missing and a retired FBI agent steps in to try to help local law enforcement figure out who is kidnapping and murdering children.
This book was written very unbelievably in my opinion. The whole book is about kids going missing, and yet there was not one attentive parent in this book. Sophie is the first child that went missing, and we find out that her mother knowingly continued to let her be trained by her molester simply because she wanted her to be trained by the best. One of the mothers in the book is a prostitute who doesn’t even notice her child went missing for 24 hours! Even Eva, the retired FBI analyst who is assisting in the case frequently loses track of her children day to day. I just found it unbelievable that all these parents, mothers really, would not be more proactive in their children’s safety knowing that children are being abducted.
Another thing I found unbelievable about the way this book was written was how honestly stupid Eva was. They brought her in to HELP the investigation but she didn’t seem to be able to offer any real insight and children were still being abducted. Additionally, how good could she be when she didn’t even suspect her own father? I don’t think it’s even a spoiler at this point, it was so obvious her father had something to do with it. I don’t know if the author was trying to use foreshadowing or what, since the dad always conveniently knew too much, but it was so obvious he was the kidnapper that it pissed me off how every other character was ignoring the obvious signs.
The motive for the dad kidnapping and murdering children was extremely unrealistic as well. The book as a whole was just simply unbelievable as something that was actually happen. I didn’t connect with any of the characters and I honestly think this was a bad book

mysterious
medium-paced
I really wanted to like this book, and up until the end I did. But the big reveal just...ugh. It made no sense and came out of nowhere. The clues leading to it seemed nonexistent and the motive felt contrived and beyond belief. Also, after the big reveal the mood and pacing seemed all off. The sort of reveal we got would shatter lives, but they were joking within minutes. Like, "well, that happened...tra la la." All that said, I'm starting book two, curious to see if the next one is a little more even and gives the characters room to work on their relationships.
