Blood, blood and more blood. Oh! And nightmares.
Is there ever such a more wonderful thing than that?

Dnf'ing at 55%. I've been Dnf'ing a lot of books lately, I guess a depressive episode is at least good to make you simply not want to deal with books you're not enjoying enough.
I really liked the premise of this and was super excited when I got it, but it just fell very flat. There are people on here who are like "this reads very mature" and tbh I couldn't agree less. The MC is annoying and childish and the writing absolutely shows that. Sure, there's gore and torture and all of that and I guess that is what people mean by mature or adult, but the rest is the not so good kind of YA through and through.
I'm gonna be honest and say that I stopped reading after the MC had two completely senseless, useless and out-of-character breakdowns because I'm so tired of that shit. I also read the synopsis of the second book, went "what the everloving fuck, how ridiculous!!" and put it aside for so long that I basically don't remember anything else. I do remember that most things felt very unrealistic and drawn out and some character development happened within minutes of completely contradicting characterizations and, well, like I said, I'm not here for that.
(awkwardly ends the review without any kind of outro because I don't know what else to say... Bye)

Not the best book ever written given that there were somethings that made the plot weak (like Mirella being casually disposed off, Nita not suffering from any severe damage from havng her pain circuits off for a pretty long time, not eating for long periods of time yet still being able to heal herself which just makes it a little unrealistic for me) but despite that, I enjoyed the book so much that I finished it in 2 sittings. It was everything I wanted at the moment and was a perfect respite from heavy fantasy. Loved the characters and the lore of the world. The plot twist was well done as well. I can't wait to finish the webtoon as well and start the sequel!
Just finished Only Ashes Remain and can't wait to read and compare this! I already know its gonna be really good.
