Pretty good! I'll admit I was not the biggest fan from the beginning, although this had to do with the writing -- people "smiled" way too much in those first few 100 pages, was quite annoying, give another verb! I wasn't the biggest fan of the character Nita however I really found myself emersed in this story of monsters and the black market. I was truly surprised by her seller and the ending made me want more!

I just finished this book and omg I've got so many things swirling round in my head. This has got to be the most unique ya novel I have ever read! I've not read many books where the main character goes through such dark things as well as being involved with such scary things! I enjoyed the hell out of it regardless and the reveals during this book just had me so much more excited to continue with the next book! I dont know if it's just me but I loved how kovits and nitas relationship developed and found myself rooting for them even in times when maybe I shouldnt have
I've been intrigued by this book for a while now and am glad to have finally picked it up. It is about Nita, whose mother makes money on the black market for monsters. She hunts them and Nita dissects them, to sell the parts online. It should be obvious from the premise that this book is not for a weak stomach!
I really liked reading it. Somehow, I was always struggling to put it down because everything was so interesting and suddenly I was at 50% of the book, then at 70% and suddenly it was over? I really love losing track of time while reading!
I was a bit unhappy with the writing style, though. Nita's thoughts are repeated in great detail, which made the text feel a little immature to be. But that might just be personal taste. I love Nita as a protagonist: She likes biology and anatomy and has a very questionable moral code. She does get into a conflict with those morals, but they are never more important than her own life. She had to keep fighting throughout the whole book and from the premise of the second one, this struggle seems to continue. I can't wait!
In general, I really enjoyed this dark bloody story and will continue the series for sure.

This world is one that both terrifies me and fascinates me. Nita is a fierce character with questionable morals, who dissects dead bodies so her mother can sell their body parts online. These bodies belong to “unnaturals”, beings that aren’t quite human and have abilities that range from eating peoples pain to changing pink from what they eat like a flamingo. After saving a live unnatural that her mother brings home, Nita finds herself sold to the black market and has to find a way out before she is sold off to the highest bidder or they start taking parts of her. The internal struggle Nita goes through with the things she needs to do to escape is so real and you struggle right along with her. The descriptions of anatomy, especially related to Nita’s ability, are amazing. I cannot wait to jump into the next one and have already pre-ordered the paperback of the 3rd! If you want a good spooky season read go pick this one up now!!
This was...okay. I can definitely see how other people might love this but it wasn't really for me. I think the idea is super cool, but despite the violent story that should have read like it was for more mature YA readers, in my opinion, I felt like the writing style was a little more juvenile than I would have liked. That honestly may just be me, but that's what I felt while I was reading. I own the second book but I don't think I'll read it now. I just didn't feel super sucked into the story.
I need the second book!
And I totally want her and Kovit together.

Gruesome and perfect for Spooktober. Will definitely continue this series, especially with the way it ended!
