I really loved this book. It was continually interesting, surprising, and ended in a way I didn't quite expect. It makes me view the world in a different way, and not a lot of books can do that.

The concept was really interesting but the ending left me with so many questions. Also some POVS were very boring. Definitely look up the trigger warnings before reading this

Wow. What a BOOK. I can’t wait to discuss this with my friends, it made me audibly gasp quite often 😦

Definitely not for people who get squirmish, as there is a lot of gore… But if I managed it, I suppose many people can 🫠

I appreciated the perspectives of all the different characters (Allie, Jocelyn at some points, Margot, Roxy and Tunde) and I loved the way they all started to intertwine with each other through different ways 😳
It definitely had ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ energy that I could appreciate and I love the flip side 👏🏼

I’m definitely recommending this to anyone who’s a fan of gory, intense reads! The fact it had Margaret Atwood’s seal of importance was impressive ✨

I am so conflicted about this book. I love the idea, but I am a bit infuriated by the corruption of power. I also feel like I didn't have to see that much violence. Maybe I'm just idiotic or too hopeful, but I don't believe that this is what would happen.

It’s hard to do justice to this book in a review. The only critique I have is there might be too many points of view, but that may be because I was listening to  the audiobook. Regardless, I understand why this book was endorsed by Margaret Atwood. It doesn’t just flip gendered power dynamics on their head, it presents a well researched take on what it means to have power period. The last chapter of the book hits the hardest in an otherwise subversive narrative and cleverly asks the audience to consider who writes the history books, who interprets archaeological artifacts, what it means to be a man/woman, and what a different world would look like. I felt like the author considered everything even intersex individuals and the many expressions of power - political, social, vengeful, military, leadership, sexual, survival, etc.

Updated from a 5.0 to a 4.75. It’s a good book and I appreciate how much was included but the major lasting memories I have are the extremely uncomfortable parts.

An book that inverts the power dynamics of gender. Interesting premise, but less a reimagining of the world and more just flipping who has power with the same outcomes. I liked the interplay of politics, religion and crime in the story but will say that the sexual violence in the book was a lot and I think at times didn’t serve to further the plot. Read this ahead of it becoming a TV show and overall an interesting story.
