Toshikazu Kawaguchi's Tales from the Cafe is a heartwarming and thought provoking novel that takes place in a unique Tokyo Cafe, Funiculi Funicula. This extraordinary establishment offers its patrons a chance to travel back in time, but with a strict set of rules: they can only travel to a specific table in the cafe and they must return before their coffee gets cold.
The story follows four different individuals who each have their own reasons for visiting the cafe. They grapple with regrets, longings and unfulfilled desires, seeking closure and redemption through their time travelling experiences.
While the novel's premise may seem fantastical it deeply delves into human themes that resonate with all the readers.

similar to the first book “before the coffee gets cold,” this was emotional while also being cozy and heartwarming. i did enjoy the stories from the first one much more tho. only the ‘mother and son’ story truly connected and made me feel emotional - the first story i also enjoyed more than the last two
i think the repetitiveness of the setting and the rules being mentioned over and over could’ve also added to my reading experience
