the story and worldbuilding had potential, and it was a mostly enjoyable read. that being said i did not like the writing style. 

also the characters could have been a lot more fleshed out. one issue that i have is that the side characters’ motivations are never really explained so especially in the later half of the book i just had to accept things at face value. also it feels like nothing the characters do has actual consequences. whatever happens tends to gets resolved or undone in the next chapter, and sometimes things just seem to happen for the sake of the plot, but then have no real impact on the story

I wanted to love this so much. 
And part of me does. The characters were great, I loved the representation and I thought Wyatt was a really enjoyable narrator. The writing style was good too...

But the plot was all over the place. The pacing was inconsistent. And the story couldn't seem to focus on literally anything. To the extent that the main plot point of this book doesn't get a resolution by the end. 

I thought Wyatt acted a bit old for his age too. A 17 year old with multiple years of sexual experience and sexual partners? Like... it isn't impossible and I guess some teenagers do mess around a lot but idk.

This was a super fun read. The protagonist is hilarious and I love the inner monologue from this writer. Literally I was laughing the entire book. Even with how funny it was,  the plot and characterizations never suffered!

This book might be better to read once all three books are published. It's a first-person character book, so everything we know is based on what the main character, Wyatt knows. Wyatt, however, is a witch who was forbidden from learning about his powers and left Asalin, a fae kingdom for the human world. Wyatt is found and brought back to Asalin by his fae prince fiancee, Emyr. As Wyatt learns (or actively resists learning) about Asalin, fae and witch craft, so does the reader. I personally found that very frustrating. I'm hoping that once all three books are out, it will be less frustrating for me to read and I'll enjoy it more.
