To each their own but I don't like unprotected sex scenes after the first "I love you" is said 300 pages into the book after the first big fight over miscommunication, or TWO sexual trauma scenes without a trigger warning in the prelude. Garrett was good at the beginning but I had a hard time liking Jennie throughout. She's getting all these guys attentions and then using it to make Garrett jealous, and the whole Krissy situation I could've done without. Cara and Ollie I was bigger fans of. I also don't understand how Jennie got to do / afford anything financially, because everyone was buying everything major for her. May have been just my copy but there were many typos throughout the book, and this easily could've been 200 pages less. Everything was predictable, I skimmed the last 100 pages after said unprotected intimate scene, and there would be "plot twists" only for the incident to not be a big deal. Garrett's dad leaving the house with a bottle of whiskey as a recovering alcoholic?? He didn't take a sip. Jennie gets in a car crash? It's fixed in the weirdest way possible with no one hurt or cost to her. Can't tell Carter about the relationship cause he'll flip? Resolved quite easily. I enjoyed the callbacks to the ref during the hockey games, and Adam's commentary in general. Otherwise, this book was repetitive and not a happy ending in my eyes. Also, as someone who gets the compliment a lot, I think it's toxic af to call someone your sunshine and be dependent on them as your source of joy or happiness so when that sunflower necklace was given I was done.

The love story was sweet and the author did a good job to showing, rather than telling, us the friendship and relationship was evolving in the first half. The second half of the book was too long. It leaned too hard into miscommunication and female insecurity tropes. Also really heavy on the lengthy speeches and internal monologue.

i figured out what makes this so long is the fact that there's one spice chapter for every three chapters LOL but with that much quantity, it's not repetitive and well always... interesting. i know we're reading this book for the romance and definitely not to know more about hockey as a sport soo not complaining !!! the only ick i have is how they have a name for everything, i'm not even gonna talk about it. it's realy funny though—i laughed A LOT, hot, and yet still so angsty. i love jenniegarrett and their friendship with each other + with the others <3

This is a great second book from Becka Mack. I really enjoyed Jennie and Garrett's story. It's quite emotional as it delves into their pasts. Jennie has lost a lot and finds it difficult to trust people. Garrett had a difficult childhood and that is discussed throughout the book. Somehow these two find one another and develop a loving friendship and build on that. This was the slow burn of slow burns! It's a long book and I felt it could have been 100 pages shorter, but there's lots of character development, spice, secondary characters, hockey and family. I enjoyed this book. I'm excited for book 3.

So much spice, it’s getting old. I only wanted to see how the characters from the first book developed.
