Very disappointed by the ending and I’m confused about it and can’t find any explanations online.

This was an atmospheric and very cinematic thriller! Twisty and layered and very meta and I loved it! Set at a remote Irish cottage on a horror film production, an actress trying to make a comeback discovers things turning into a real life horror story. Perfect for fans of The siren by Kathrine St. John and great on audio with a full cast narration. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early audio copy in exchange for my honest review!

Read via audiobook!

After reading the summary, I was super interested and excited for this book. It did feel a little slow to start, but once I was a few chapters in it took off running. I loved the back and forth between what was actually happening and the script. It really added to the anticipation of everything and what was possibly going to happen. This book had me guessing and I wasn’t too surprised by the twists but it didn’t ruin the ending.

I did feel like the “why” was a little eh and didn’t really feel that explained, but since I listened to the audiobook of it I could’ve just not caught it. The ending I wish there was a little something more, maybe just a few more things wrapped up. This would definitely be a fun movie adaptation though. Overall, I enjoyed this movie themed thriller and would recommend to anyone who’s wanting a fun read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for the audiobook!

This was fun! It definitely could have been cut at least 50 pages (the audiobook, while well done, felt *so* long), and I would have loved to have seen just a bit more spooky atmosphere thrown in. The main character was on the set of a horror movie (that becomes a bit too real), so I think the author could have pushed that ~vibe~ a bit further. But, overall, I think this book is a fun time, and I enjoyed the twists and turns it took.

Run Time by Catherine Ryan Howard

Adele Rafferty was dealt a rough hand. While she was a popular child actor, she was cut off from her on-going show in Ireland and was killed off from a popular movie series. Now in LA, trying to audition during the day while working at a motel at night, she is close to giving up on her dream. However, she gets a call about being cast in a movie in Ireland called Final Draft. Due to the secrecy behind the project, not knowing much about the script except location, she agreed to do the project. But when she gets there, she can’t help but think that the movie might be based on her reality or is she actually going crazy?

WOW. This story is about a book being made into movie. Talk about meta! If any other author tried to attempt this, I think it would’ve been too confusing. But Howard nailed it! It kept the readers on their toes and truly was a page turner! I hope you get a chance to pick this one up!

This was an okay book for me, but not quite a 3 star. I'm only giving it 2.5 for originality. In all honesty, even though I can see why it was called Run Time, I still thought it would've  been better to name it after the movie and book name in the book itself which was "Final Draft" to make it even crazier.

This book did have some great twists and turns and revelations and all, but it was too wordy in some parts here and there that dragged on for way too long and found myself bored as heck. It almost felt like one of those 'word count' kind of story which should've been cut short.

Overall, it was meh for me and not very memorable. *shrugging* So good luck to anyone else who reads this one and hope you like/enjoy it better than I did.

A book about a writer who writes a book about a book by a writer who gaslights everyone and there is a movie about the book that has a book in it and, surprise! A writer and oh yeah, more gaslighting and ...yeah. Convoluted and annoying.

Let me start this out by saying, the unreliable narrator trope in thrillers is probably my least favorite. As a matter of fact, I wish they would put a disclaimer on the cover of these books to notify the reader that you may be gaslit the entire time you're reading this...along with the MC.

Okay, now that that's out of my system. I did enjoy this book and was guessing about what could be happening until the very end. Catherine Ryan Howard is a talented writer and she knows how to write in a lot of layers into her novels. If you've read her previous novel, The Nothing Man, you know that she can incorporate multiple timelines and POVs in a way that feels immersive rather than overwhelming for the reader. This is the case for Run Time as well.

I will say, three layers (real time - the screen play - the MCs backstory) does require a certain level of focus that was hard for me to maintain at all times. I listened on audio which is always fun with her books because of the Irish accents, but I wish I had a physical copy to follow along with so I could have referenced earlier pages.
