I love Anna Burns, but this is easily my least favourite of hers. Just didn’t do much for me at all. Its only saving grace is her sense of humour, which is as good as ever.

This is the funniest book I've read in a while. The ridiculous riffs on comic book archetypes, the hyperbolic humour, and the skewering of everyone's inner turmoil were all a delight.

This is a fun and light tale where archetypes try to see and grow beyond their set paths and come to see themselves and others for who they might turn out to be. Perfectly nice but nothing top groundbreaking. The author is also the narrator and her speaking has a certain rhythm to it that i found unusual, which served to insert some additional charm.

Not nearly as funny or moving as milkman :/ felt like a less polished, less successful attempt at similar impulses. But there were moving passages and some places where it felt clear this was the same writer who’d so successfully pulled off milkman, even if she wasn’t in top form here
