This was hard to finish because I couldn't get into Luce or Daniel. I felt that there was a built in assumption that I would understand they're meant to be so I didn't actually see or feel them having a relationship. Like this guy was a total prick to her from day 1 and yet still she's insta love - why? I just don't get it, there wasn't even a proper conversation for a long time and then it's all shrouded in mystery. I was so frustrated with these characters. I only finished it because I listened to it in the car. Then I find out it's a cliff hanger. Yeah, so I will not be continuing this series. I'm just glad it's over for me.

I really would like to give this a 1.5. It was vaguely entertaining, although much of the end of this book didn't make sense, and there was a definite case of "Edward Cullen Syndrome", where average girl with vaguely sad past falls in love with mysterious and aloof boy who is not at all interested and all but tells the girl off until finally he admits that he's always been in love with her and then somehow almost kills her or puts her in some situation where she nearly dies etc etc. The biggest problem with this book is that much of the beginning plot - i.e. the entire reason why Luce gets placed at this school - is never really explained. Apparently it wasn't a huge plot device??? Oh wait, that's untrue. Anyway it's vaguely interesting but only if you don't really care that you're reading stuff that has already been done before, and better, with a barely unique subplot that is never really developed and could actually make this book stand out..

Lukewarm. That about sums up my feelings on this book in one word. That's how I felt about the writing, the characters, the romance. I just wasn't feeling it at all. And it also seemed like it took so long to get to the point of the story, that I was starting to lose interest.

This felt like just another story about a teenage girl who is absolutely obsessed with a guy. Like an unhealthy obsession--the kind where you wonder if she really has any interests or things she likes to do or anything besides focus on the guy. I really don't care for stories like this. And I wasn't feeling the attraction between Luce and Daniel. It was like the author kept telling me she was attracted to him, and later on that he was also attracted to her, but I just didn't see it. It didn't feel real.

I couldn't find a character that I liked, either. I found it really obnoxious the way her "friend" Arianne kept calling Luce her new pet. And none of the friendships or relationships seemed authentic. It was all so shallow.

I don't think I'd recommend this one, except maybe to fans of Twilight, because it had a similar feel, to me. I don't think I'll continue on with the series--I was also annoyed that we were really given no answers by the end of the book. Just cryptic hints that I guess is supposed to make me want to read the next book, but the writing wasn't good enough to tempt me.

I know this book has gotten mixed reviews and I was thinking that it was not really too good of a book until I got about 75% way thru it. I think as the series goes on it will develop into a great series

[b:Fallen|6487308|Fallen (Fallen, #1)|Lauren Kate|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1440619649s/6487308.jpg|6678670] has so much potential and I have great hopes for the rest of the series.

Lucinda Price is a well educated and privileged young lady and then something goes amiss to shatter her perfect world. She ends up at the Sword & Cross boarding school (for delinquents) and is immediately mesmerized and infatuated with a boy named Daniel Grigori. Finding her place in this school, among these absurd people, she begins to unravel the mystery of her life and piece together memories she didn’t realize she possessed.

“I study these things. I’m an academic. I don’t get tangled up in tribal matters of the heart.”

“I should like to have a word with whoever thought putting the fate of all our eternal souls in the hands of one lovesick pair of infants was so brilliant an idea.”

“I’m sort of in between gigs right now,”

[a:Lauren Kate|2905297|Lauren Kate|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1296679724p2/2905297.jpg]’s imagination artfully weaves together a world of fallen angels and the demons they fight. Though IMHO the characters weren’t all fully developed, but they still had their unforgettable moments and quirky charms. I’m torn between liking and loving this book. I rounded up to 4-stars to give it the benefit of the doubt.

I enjoyed the characters and the storyline; though at some points it dragged on a bit too much. (I found myself put it down for bed and actually waited a couple days before picking it up again.) But overall, Fallen is an intriguing world with a fascinating concept.
