Theo is a 13 year old kid who doesn't like being called "Teddy". Both his parents are lawyers and it looks as if the child has spent all his childhood in court rooms. In the first chapter we meet his best friend, April Finnemore, who may become his girlfriend in the later books.
The school boy loves the law and aspires to be a successful trial lawyer one day. He is friendly with many of the judges and arranges a field trip for his class to witness the first day of a high profile murder trial due to his connections with the Judge presiding over the case.
Theo has his own office in the Law offices of Boone and Boone. Explaining difficult terms like foreclosure and mortgage to his school mates is part of his consultancy services. Apparently, Theo is already keeping good public relations to retain possible clients in the future.

Good wholesome middle grade murder mystery courtroom thriller
This wasn't quite a challenging book. I had read it some time ago, thinking it was really fun. As I reread it, I see that the language and syntax don't exactly flow. I can immediately tell that it is not a book for advanced readers.

Theodore Boone knows he wants to be a lawyer like his parents. in fact, he's already giving out legal advice to other students and families in the area who can't afford the services of a licensed lawyer. He takes a particular interest in a murder case happening in town, even arranging for his class to take a trip to the trial. But when one of his 'clients' reveals a complicated stake in the trial, will Theodore be able to admit that he can't handle it alone?
3 1/2 stars.
Fun read, but does drag a bit as the book tries to explain various bits of law from the view of an avid law 8th grader.

This is a clever YA suspense/procedural story. It introduces children to the procedures of a courtroom plus gives them a hero they can follow and relate to in their teenage years. Theodore Boone is a kid who knows what he wants to do with his life, and he lives to do it even at the young age of 13. You'll be enthralled with the story just as much your child.
