This ended up being more emotional than I thought. I picked this up because of the Gershwin connection and a desire to know anything about Kay Swift -- her "Can't We Be Friends" is one of my fave standards. The book is almost divided in two, the first half being the story of Katharine Weber's father and his narcissistic behaviour and what a pall that cast over her family's life. The second half introduces Katharine's grandmother, Kay Swift, and I think it gives more insight into her story than any other biography could. The historical details are provided but the personal memories give an extraordinary intimacy to understanding Kay Swift the person. Terrific!

I received this in a Goodreads giveaway. Interesting memoir about a VERY dysfunctional family. Details Kay Swift, Broadway composer, and her extramarital affair with George Gershwin.
