What an enjoyable read! This is the kind of book that really just takes you into the world in a way that makes you forget you're sitting around reading a book. The dry, dark humor is delightful, and if you're a classic horror fan you'll love all the references. This story throws you right into the middle of "the Game", which you know nothing about, and it was intriguing to go deeper down the hole and slowly find out what the Game was all about up to the very end. The characters are so fun to go along with, especially our rather blunt narrator, a dog named Snuff.
If I had any complaints, I'd say it's that the ending is a bit abrupt and a tad anti-climactic, but at the same time it fits the story. Overall I loved reading this. I especially recommend reading it in October :P

Even if you only read the book for the very last sentence, it's worth it!
Very clever, great alternative perspective, fresh look at familiar characters, nice twist at the end. Extremely enjoyable.

Was listening to this with the boys. It was a classic “spooky reads” recommendation. Unfortunately, none of us are really into the classic horror characters like Dracula, the Werewolf, etc. Might be better as a physical read but as an audiobook, I found the narration a bit phoned in. For example, it’s set in Victorian England but almost none of the characters have a British accent. It’s a small thing that might’ve done a lot to convey the setting more. Mostly, we just weren’t captivated.
