Perhaps Zelazny's finest novel. It's a hodgepodge of characters from monster lit, myth and historical crime, in a Lovecraftian setting, fighting it out for the fate of the world, told in the first person from the perspective of Jack the Ripper's dog.
If that doesn't make you want to read it, then you are a very sad person.

A sublime read. Incredible deftness of character, planning, and subtlety. The characterization here is unique; even though I knew most of the 'players' involved, Zelazny did a marvelous job coloring them in more. I'll leave it there, as others have given more details, and I would encourage anyone - literally anyone - to read this.
My rating is definitely biased because I adore Roger Zelazny and can't get enough, but also it was a super enjoyable read.

A really cozy autumn read. A cute story about the animal companions of gothic legends. The plot kind of meanders and it definitely takes a long time to get to the point, but i still enjoyed the ride.
Zelazny really shows his range with this as its such an off the wall premise, I think few others could have pulled it off. Considering he wrote this at the very end of his life, it only adds to his prestige as a multi genre master.

Finished in one month as intented. I hoped for more. Some chapters are so small, the first 15 or so, that let me fill a bit disappointed, so much that I had to stop reading for a couple of days because I was not remember stuff. Then I read everything in two days and it felt better.
To be honest I felt it interested the way was written and all the characters from victorian era - the jack reaper, frankenstein, hyde, holmes, dracula among others. Good stuff but really nothing over the top. Since all culminate in the 31 of october, what you don't know until the 30 will be told in the end.
It's a nice lovecraftian mix of mystery and horror.
