Such an intense look at the human spirit and the challenging bond between a son and his papa. The dialogue between the pair is always so heartbreaking as the child slowly loses his innocence and comes to terms with the depravity and hopelessness of his situation. From beginning to end, the only thing you can hope for the two characters is that they stay together or die less grusomely than those around them.

had i known about this book during my writing skills class, i would’ve 100% recommended this. it’s a masterclass in gripping your reader with the driest set of description and a gorgeously written book overall

The world has been devastated by an unspecified catastrophe—possibly nuclear—leaving the landscape covered in ash, devoid of most life, and inhabited by scattered survivors, many of whom have turned to cannibalism. McCarthy’s sparse, poetic prose and the novel’s stripped-down narrative create a haunting meditation on survival, morality, and the enduring power of love in the face of total devastation.
