A single story told from two points in time about 100 years apart.  Very well written, I could feel the heart ache.

Not to distract from the rest of the story line, but so much of this is about the actions of a psychopath, the fall out from those actions, and the victims who are trying to heal.

The Lost Bookshop was a perfect mix of magic and real life.

The three stories of Opaline, Martha, and Henry intertwined beautifully, and the stories left you feeling hopeful. There was no question left unanswered; the last paragraph of The Lost Bookshop answered that most important question. Oh, I do not know how I will get over this book - it was just so wonderful!

"A good story always begins with tea."

This story was more complicated than I had been expecting. There were cozy, hygge moments mingled with a darker, more emotionally heavy undercurrent throughout the story. The consequences of generational trauma are far-reaching.

Henry was funny in an unintentional yet realistic way, which made him charming. His humor helped to lighten some of the darkness in this book.

Side note: Why did Madame Bowden say a curious incident occurred "in the eighties" but Martha says "in the sixties" when she retells the story?

This was part romance, despite the bittersweet nature there are happy endings, historical fiction, contemporary fiction and a dash of magical realism.
We follow three POVs, two present day and one in the past, Opaline, Martha and Henry. I do think Henry's wasn't necessarily needed as Martha and Opaline are the heart of the story. We follow Martha as she escapes an abusive marriage and starts over as a housekeeper for a strange older woman in a house that is not as it seems. We also follow Opaline in the 20's who runs away to Paris to escape her abusive brother and an arranged marriage becoming a rare book seller. As the book progresses, their stories begin to intertwine and take on new meaning.
A story for book lovers, about strength, hope, love and discovering who we are. The magical elements added a whimsical touch, I just wish there was a little more of it.

It does contain some heavier themes such as abuse.

This book isnt something I would naturally gravitate towards but the blurb sounded interesting so I thought Id give it a go and so glad I did

It took me a long while to get fully into it, I enjoy books with multi-pov and duel timeline, and did think by the end it really did work for this book. However, at the start  to middle I found it really jarring and wasnt enjoying it as much. Id get sucked into one persons story and then suddenly dumped into another and I just struggled to find the rhythm of the book and really get into it

The last third of the book I flew though, I love seeing the different pieces fitting together and how the two timelines/povs came together, I also really enjoyed the element of magic

This book was about everything I love about a book—the magical power to take you somewhere else. It was beautiful and a book that I will recommend over and over again and give out as gifts.

If I could give more than 5⭐️ I would. This one is tied with one other as my favorite book.
