I hate to rate a memoir below a 4 because this is after all someone’s life. But I felt that this story was lacking in something. Perhaps it lacked insight and introspection on the part of the author into some of the more upsetting incidents in his youth. I admire Elliot Page for the struggle they’ve been through, and that he shared his story, but I just didn’t get much from this book. As someone close to a trans person, I was hoping for more in the way of reflection from the author.

An important read to have a better understanding of what trans people go through each day. A reminder of what we see on our screens, or on the red carpet ( even at TIFF , a favourite) doesn’t tell us all.
However as a book difficult to follow at times as he jumped from topic to topic and relationship to relationship in a non linear way. His memoir, his choice how he wishes to present his life!
Overall glad I read his story.
