Wow, this book is like a hot marshmallow for my soul. Warm, fluffy, sweet, and just all around the kind of thing which will put some color in your cheeks. Francis and Sebastian are both wonderfully driven characters whose motivations are straightforwards but weave into the books theme, thus, the book can engage in all sorts of complicated dynamics between them while keeping the forward momentum of the story focused on the ***world at large*** instead of melodrama. And what a world it is! The gorgeous colors make Paris pop and blossom, from dresses to vibrant settings to extravagance which feels like a new fairytale. Wang paints with a sympathetic brush, with characters who are, by and large, ultimately redeemed across the board. (The King can ROCK some eyeliner. WOOF.) It's so nice to read something which is by and large so positive-- I was having a terrible day and just sitting down to read this made me feel infinitely better. A great pick-me-up, and a very accessible LGBTQ+ graphic novel.

Una historia hermosa y con unas ilustraciones preciosas que acompañan al tono que se le quiere dar a la novela.

cuties!!

an innocent and touching read.

What I liked:
-overall it was really sweet! i thought the author did a good job developing the extended metaphors about transness/gender fluidity without being too heavy handed about it
- besides the metaphor for trans-ness/gender fluidity, there was also parallels to dating someone who’s not out yet when you’re out. There was a line I really liked where Frances said that Sebastian hiding her felt like she was the secret
- I also liked that at the end, they left it ambiguous as to Sebastian’s labels and that Frances loves him irrespective of how he identifies.
- the art style, while not my usual cup of tea, worked well for this story and was charming

What I disliked:
- I did feel like the dad got on board too fast by the end with Sebastian dressing as Crystallia, but I wasn’t mad about it. It was nice to see him be supportive.
-some scenes/endings of chapters felt kind of abrupt.
-the world was a little bit confusing. It was set in medieval times, but with some modern anachronisms like department stores and spas.
