14 years.

14 years of misunderstanding.
14 years of miscommunication.
14 years of confusion.
14 years of resentment.

Wow. The emotional journey this book took me on, the heartbreak, the what-ifs... I'm still reeling from the experience of it.

The story is slow, presented in a dual timeline and dual POV. But the revelation of the one person behind him, shit, I did not expect that. I expected the story to go a certain way, but it totally, unexpectedly deviates and I had to scramble to collect myself.

Just as it is slow, the story is well written, one designed to keep the reader immersed in the lives of the characters, to let the reader feels the emotion. It's a read like none other. It's a read where you either like the end it comes to, or you don't.

WHY IS THIS BOOK NOT TALKED ABOUT MORE!!!!!
I have never highlighted anything in a book - but I sure did for this one!!!

I could not put this book down - the entire book kept me on my toes, and I truly WAS MIND BLOWN! this book deserves WAY more hype that it has.

I typically don’t like the miscommunication trope because I find it “boring” BUT THIS BOOK WAS FAR FROM THAT!

I am obsessed with Reid and Arden - the relationship they built and the characters development will live rent free in my heart for a while. This book really grabbed me when Arden and Reid went out on there first date - for hot chocolate at the “ book speak easy” playing scrabble to get to know each other. “Arden, that smile pulling in his lips, I won’t need to keep score to know if I’ve won, because if I walk away from this table knowing you more than I do now, it won’t matter how many points I have”

I felt like I lived in there world snd their story over and over again as I read this book, and thinking about it makes me LOVE Reid even more.

This book was truly a Plot Twist. The entire time I was reading it as Josh being on the other end of it, when really the dinner meeting was with Reid. The entire time I thought it was Josh - and I truly hated Josh from the start. It kept me reading until I got my answers.

Josh - I hated him from the beginning I saw right through his crap, I hated every minute of him, and when she finally showed up at dinner to Reid pregnant and married I almost SCREAM, I was like THERE IS NO WAY ITS JOSH BABY OR MARRIED TO JOSH, no way. And thankfully it’s not but I really thought it was and panicked.

I really hope we can have another book about Arden’s life with her husband ( who isn’t even a character in the book) I want to know more about them, even tho I wish Arden didn’t say “ let’s be friends” to reid - I want to know how they both made in their own lives, without being together.

I wish that reid and Arden ended up together there love was special and I loved their story, this story will live RENT FREE in my head long term. I wish I could rate this as 5 billion stars.

Shoutout swiftie tiktok for exposing me to this book. I loved it it was descriptive and written so well I was fully invested in Arden’s relationship the entire time. I woke up today and my first thought was about this book and how I needed to finish it. The little twist at the end was unexpected. I read 80% of the book thinking that Josh was her long lost love. I had to stop and rethink everything I thought this book was heading towards. 4.5⭐️

This book made me cry so many times I can’t even believe it. It healed parts of my aching teenage soul I didn’t realize *could* be healed, and it helped me compartmentalize my own (oddly similar) experiences. This is one I will absolutely read again and again.

I finished this yesterday and woke up still thinking about this book! I have never read a book quite like this before,It was such a great read.
I really enjoyed the authors way of going to past and present so you could live “presently” through what Arden was telling her friend Amanda. And then that twist!!!! Omgggggggg my jaw stayed open for a solid minute in shock!

Thank you for the ARC!

Not going to lie, I definitely felt that this was a really slow book for me, one that I had to continuously push myself to continue you through. When it got to the part where Arden gets with Reid, I genuinely thought “oh here’s just another boyfriend before her and Josh get together” which is obvious to what Dianna wants you to think when reading. When the part came to where the truth is exposed, that who Arden has been referring too is actually Reid, I had to reread that a few times over to make sure I was totally reading it correctly. When they explain the miscommunication of their breakup, my heart breaks at their entire storyline. I’m not one for the miscommunication trope (as explained in the novel, it’s one of the most hated tropes) but the part where Reid tells present day Arden that, as much as it utterly sucks that what broke them up was words that, at face value and out of context told the story that the relationship was over, when in reality that’s not what either of them were saying, however the events made them who there were today and they wouldn’t be happy with their current if what happened didn’t occur. Something in me actually breaks at that, at it is something that I can definitely related to; that you have to look at past experiences and relationships and be thankful for having them as they make you who you are today, regardless of how shitty they are in the moment. As for the part where Josh’s true colours show, omg my heart actually broke once again at the fact that he was so superficial in the entirety of their relationship.

When they finally see each other again, and lay out both their stories and come to the conclusion that they loved each other but not enough in a way that either of them deserved, omg I was gutted. This book definitely shocked me by the second half, warranting a five start as if made me feel all of the feelings and honestly cry to hard. The house analogy at the end, brought me to tears.

This book broke me, but I already want to reread it. It is SO. GOOD. I cannot stop thinking about it. Easily one of my favorite books of all time.
