This book was… fine? I did actually like a lot about it, and I wish I liked it more, honestly, but it just didn’t really set the heather on fire for me. It’s in first person perspective, which isn’t my favourite unless it feels to me like the book is doing something interesting with it, and this book didn’t; the prose was decent but not amazing, I guess. I loved the setting and how vivid it felt, particularly the ‘street thieves eye view’ we got of Samarkand, and I loved all the wuxia elements, and I even quite liked the characters, but somehow it didn’t all come together to really pop for me.

This was so much fun! A nonstop whirlwind of adventure with street gangs, thieves, mysterious martial artists, a cursed object, assassins, a girl dressing as a boy — everything I love in a novel :)

Disclaimer: I won a physical copy of this from the publisher (side note: it’s gorgeous) — literally the day after I bought the ebook. Whoops. Luckily, I Thoroughly enjoyed it
