I will start this with a warning. If you pick this book up you will be reaching for the second book in the series the moment you get to the end.
The book starts right near the end of the war in rural Italy and follows the life of Graziella and the people around her through her eyes. I found the writing rich and yet so easy to read. I couldn't put it down and read it over the space of 24 hours.
The writer is a new discovery for me and will be reading the rest of this series and her other books too.
