Bonhoeffer says nothing new, but in fact truths that are very old. In today’s Christian climate, these words must be heeded. In his simplicity, Bonhoeffer is calling the believer to a profound reality and this book serves as a test to each believer, making sure they are focusing on Christ and listening to his call to follow Him.
Absolutely a reason this is a modern classic. This will challenge you and call you to follow Jesus closer.

I started this been at the beginning of the year and had to put and down and pick it up a few times. I completely it at the end of October. It’s richly dense with information and truths that will take you weeks to digest and it’s worth every minute. Definitely worth owning and coming back to over and over
I may pick this up again someday, but the writing is pretty dense. Some good ideas here, but it's hard to take in.

Amazing. Bold and true to scripture. I particularly enjoyed his chapter on the Christian response to slavery and rebellion against governent—as he was living in Nazi Germany, his words hit deeper.
He focuses on complete, total surrender, it's need and impacts in our lives. He knew what he was talking about — he was killed in Nazi Germany — and his words terrified me.
Must read.

3.5 stars. this book was good, but I couldn’t give it high ratings because I do think Dietrich is flawed in a lot of his theological beliefs and contradicts himself multiple times in his writing. There is a lack of organization in the beginning and end of the book, but I really enjoyed his interpretation of the sermon on the mount. The best part of this book was the conversations it stirred within the group I read it with.
Mind = Blown. Every time I read this book it's like reading it again for the first time because there's just so much in it to digest, and glean, and react to.
Wow... Great book. The only audio book this year I listened to at normal speed so I wouldn't miss anything.
