Solid truth that points me back to the gospel through the lens of the obedience that must come with salvation. If God says it, I will do it and this will produce sanctification by the Spirit within me!!

It was good, but I wish it was a bit easier to read. Also, I admit I prefer the more modern style of combining teachings with stories and personal/life examples. This is more of a scholarly work, which I do understand is more of Bonhoeffer's background. I do really appreciate the sheer amount of Biblical sourcing and quotation he used, and that he almost never if at all quoted from anything other than the Bible. Truly an important book, and his teachings are generally good. Again though, it isn't really my style
This is a tough one to rate for me. There's a lot of truly superior content, unique insights into old passages. Of particular note is his liberating and challenging interpretation of the "fruits of the Spirit." Eminently quotable throughout.
The only thing that holds it back from five stars is its redundancy. Sometimes he over-proves his point just repeats himself overmuch. This is a recurring, but not overwhelming, issue in the book. Some chapters are lean and compelling, but when he dithers, he dithers hard.

Somewhere between systematic theology and a Lutheran sermon series on a couple chapters out of Matthew.
I'm not sure I totally disagree with any one thing he says here. It's just he (like many systematic theologians) makes the great mysteries boring and (like some Lutheran preachers I've heard) makes good news sound or feel like bad news.
A surprise and a bit of shame, since I found the Advent devotional based on his writings (including some from here) so helpful. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
