3.5 stars. A lot of “you had to be there” anecdotes along with some genuinely funny and relatable insights. Extra 1/2 star because she loves Jurassic Park as much as I do.

A debut novel written by an undeniable star! In She Memes Well, Quinta Brunson hits us with a comically written account of lives lived and lessons learned. From her time as an Apple Store Genius Bar tech to miss “oh he got money,” she recounts her life through memes, key takeaways, family stories, and a number of experiences clearly unique to her. She does so with a comedic cadence consistent with the short form comedy that helped her rise to fame (Instagram, YouTube, Vine, Buzzfeed). Though it took some time for me to finish the book (reading during layovers or long hours at the hair salon), this book is quite an experience, particularly for a debut work of art. As a self proclaimed Abbott Elementary and A Black Lady Sketch Show Stan, I look forward to a future full of Quinta’s creative work!

Not even going to lie, I thought this book would be a book that just aimed at jokes and being funny. I thought the book would be full of memes but instead, Ms. Quinta was delivering some good advice and some real-life everyday experiences.

I love Quinta so much as a comedian but this was not the best. It just didn’t flow well. Between her life stories and success. This felt like a chore to finish.
