To write a great novel is a feat many strive for and few achieve. To write a sequel that rivals its predecessor is astounding. To do both, in his first two novels, is unheard of--yet that's exactly what Patrick Rothfuss has gifted his readers.

The Wise Man's Fear follows Kvothe's adventures at the University. When trouble strikes his reputation, he breaks from his studies to chase the wind. He follows it into service of a nobleman, and into the company of the mysterious Adem. In his travels, he hopes to uncover more about the Chandrian, and move closer to avenging his parents' deaths...

This book is several hundred pages longer than [b: The Name of the Wind|186074|The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1)|Patrick Rothfuss|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1515589515s/186074.jpg|2502879] and it oddly didn't feel long enough. While I was anxious about Kvothe spending his time on his side quest
Spoilerin Ademre
it was mostly because I was afraid of what might happen if he spent too much time away from
Spoiler the untrustworthy Maer
. The pacing of the book is good, and I came to appreciate the interludes more than I did the first book; older Kvothe is still a stranger, difficult to reckon with his younger self.

I think it's interesting to note that when I was in the store purchasing this book, I was stopped by another customer. With sad, pitying eyes, he told me he'd read this book years ago, and there was no indication the sequel was coming out any time soon. I wanted to savor this book. Like so many others, I love this series, and would read dozens of 1100 page books about Kvothe's story. But I read late into the night every night anyway, because I HAD to know what would happen next.

So for now, I'll join the thousands of fans, eager for the last day of the storytelling from Kvothe.

Mr. Rothfuss, please hurry.

This book is absolutely fantastic, I can't wait for the third book to come out. Even though it's a really long book I read it quickly because I couldn't put it down. I'm actually disappointed to have finished this, I think it's the best book I've read since the Hunger Games trilogy.

Patrick Rothfuss’ Wise Man Fears was a good read, it wasn’t as good as the first book but I still really enjoy this story. Sometimes I want to tell him to hurry up with the next books…. Kvothe is a very interesting character for me, I find him easy to connect to and I tend to obsess about him when I’m reading his story. I want him to solve the mysteries Chandrian and why they do what they do. I want him to figure out Denna and she is interesting in her own right. I think out of all the fantasy lit I’ve read Kvothe is one of my fav characters. I don’t really think I can write more of a review without spoiler so I’ll just stop there.

Can we take a moment to stare at my rating and appreciate it? This book was the most enjoyable and entertaining book i read in almost a year. Maybe more. Kvothe is probably my most beloved protagonist at the moment. sigh. Can we appreciate the rating once more? 5 stars well deserved.

Edit 2019-
Ok i think i might lower the rating to 4.7 just because after 2 years of thinking about it there are tiiiiiny things that annoy me now as a reader. But i still had so much fun reading it. So ...i dont know?

Sweeping. Beautiful. Spacious. Carries the feelings of leaves blowing in the wind and the abstract under workings of intuition and true magic.

Bigger in scope while deepening my feelings for the characters we already knew. I see how so much can be tied into a single book.

Name of the Wind changed how I saw. Wise Man's Fear first changed how I thought, then changed how I walked.
