It was funny, it was exciting, and it was also quite a page turner. What’s going to happen next? How are they gonna get out of this? These were questions constantly in my mind when I read this. I kinda wanted to be moved a bit more than I was but it was entertaining.

I decided to read this book based on James Patterson‘s recommendation. I didn’t care for it at all. An Italian mother, Gia, and her son, Joey, decide to take revenge when their boyfriends after they have been dumped. Their revenge is to destroy Luke’s (Joey’s ex) car, and burning some things in Richard‘s (Gia’s ex) house. Unfortunately, Richard‘s house burns down. Following this is a series of missteps by the mother and son. I just cannot recommend this book at all.

What a quick, fun read! This is a very basic beach read that came out last month, so the pop culture references and language used feels very current. That made it more fun! The story could easily be turned into a mother-son comedy. Even the little “twist” at the end made it exciting. It’s a really fast read and super light-hearted. There isn’t a lot of depth to it, which is why it makes for great summer reading that you can laugh along with. The main character is pretty sassy, as is his mom. Overall I felt like I was watching my favorite comedy through the words.

This book read like a deranged, unhinged version of Gilmore Girls if they were Italian New Jerseyans and Rory was a gay, aspiring stand-up comedian. No further comments.

“You and your mom deserve each other.”

Imagine Gilmore Girls. Imagine Lorelai and Rory did so much more than devil egg Jess’ car and sought extreme arson on one of Lorelai’s exes as well, your pick.

I was scrolling for available books and needed something funny, and this chaotic synopsis on my TBR struck me. And hey, it’s June, so I’m trying to read more LGBTQ+ books. This was such a chaotic and fast-paced story with hilarious narration and hijinks. I love Joey as a storyteller. We live very different lives but I could still relate to him and love his humour. He would make a great comic with this story as an act. I love the close yet sometimes complicated relationship between him and Gia. I can safely say that I could not predict how this book would end, whether they would confess, be on the run, or something in between with its consequences.

And as a bonus, “I have such a love/hate relationship with my notes app.” (I felt this so much because I would die if anyone read my dumb fanfics on it).

Also, Marco deserves the world. And Lisa.

Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Mother & son from Bayonne out for some mutual low-key breakup revenge become accidental arsonists on the run from the law? Um, YES PLEASE said this bitch.

It was delightful. I appreciated every mention to my hometown as much as Joey Rossi’s big personality. Nice twist toward the end, good character growth, can confirm the Bayonnian out of water vibe the Rossis gave off at the lake is a real thing.
