Epic, an absolute joy. I can already tell Sandman will be one of my favourites of all time. It's definitely worth the hype. The characters, the art, the references, everything just *chef's kiss*

Comics and graphic novels aren't a genre I enjoy, so despite being a Neil Gaiman fan, I probably wouldn't have read this if I didn't have an upcoming Gaiman/Sandman show as motivation. Now that I'm through 1 of 4 volumes (this one includes issues 1-20 of the series) I'm enjoying it. I'll be honest and say I had no idea that this was set in the DC universe, so the first couple of cameos by DC characters was a little jarring. But I think I've got a handle on it now. ^_^

It's been a while since I read the Sandman series, and having invested in the Absolute edition thought it was high time I gave them a reread.
They are still as rich and wonderful as I remembered, the writing is powerful and evocative and shows Gaiman at his best. The only minor disappointment was in the artwork, which seems a little cartoony at times these days, and some of the anatomy was a little odd at time.
Still it didn't really deflect that much from the story. I look forward to reading the other volumes
