This was another one that was okay. There was probably too much hype around it so I had high expectations.
Something this book helped me to realize is that I don't like a lot of queer representation in media. Like the characters in here are as close to similar to me as you can get and I found them cringe. So I think I'm just realizing that I don't really want to read about queer people in the present because it's too much of my life.
Aside from not caring about the characters, the world was a fun take on creepy Ikea, the story was straight forward and fast paced enough. But I would put this more in fantasy than scifi. However, I do know I'm more picky about that distinction than others. My overall feeling about this novella was just very "blah yeah okay sure" while cringing at some of the dialogue. So while I'm curious about the sequel I'm not sure if I'm interested enough in these characters to continue with it.

The concept here was very strong. The parallel worlds were very fun, mixed with the anti-capitalist themes. This book would have benefitted from more time to explore each of the worlds though. We only got to glimpse a few, and the focus was more on the character interpersonal dynamics than the implications of each universe.

Not what I expected, but absolutely worth reading! The writing reminded me of John Scalzi, which for me is a good thing. Funny, snarky, but lots of heart. Definitely not subtle, but sometimes you just want to read a light sci-fi novella that doesn't require a lot of thought.
