I should write this in French really, but my powers are weak. It's really beautifully done, told backwards over the course of years, tracking back from the protagonists' reunion to their first meeting. I didn't think he was going to be able to land it successfully, but the last (ie first) chapter was everything it needed to be. Great story, great drawings, great book.

Che cos'è "Nonostante tutto"? È una storia d'amore al contrario, della quale non conosciamo l'inizio, ma solo la fine. Premessa: a me non piace il romance, eppure questa storia mi ha catturata, mi ha fatta emozionare, mi ha fatto tifare per i protagonisti. Mi sono lasciata convincere all'acquisto dalla copertina e sono contenta di essermi (di nuovo) fidata di BaoPublishing.
La storia di Ana e Zeno percorre 50 anni di vita, di obiettivi, di impegno, di ponti, di stelle e d'amore. 50 anni di vita pulsante, che respira con le sue gioie e i suoi dolori.
Ho apprezzato moltissimo l'uso dei colori che aiutano a creare atmosfera e a seguire i sentimenti dei due protagonisti.
L'ambiente sullo sfondo, la città senza nome che fa da cornice alla storia, è un piccolo gioiello. Vedendo questi scorci non ho potuto fare a meno di pensare a Porto e mi è venuta una voglia pazza di tornarci.
Con il sistema di raccontare al contrario ho provato molto piacere nel scoprire tutti i dettagli che ritornano nella narrazione, una sorta di anticipazione al contrario.
Consiglio questo libro a chi ama le storie d'amore, a chi ama emozionarsi e a chi cerca un libro leggero da gustare con piacere.

I want to love this graphic novel, because the artwork is lovely and because the "love story told in reverse" framework is well-executed. You truly feel the chemistry between Ana and Zeno.
Those positive elements make it all the more frustrating that the grand romance at the heart of this story amounts to a decades long emotional affair. This book wants you to hand-wave away the fact that the years of secret, unmarked letters, late night phone calls, and even a secret rendezvous in a greenhouse, all occur while Ana is "happily" married, and I'm personally not comfortable with that.

Le racisme décomplexé ? J'aurais adoré donner une très bonne note à ce roman graphique, j'aurais pu adorer découvrir l'histoire d'Ana et de Zeno, mais le personnage de Bobo, reposant uniquement sur des stéréotypes racistes, est absolument outrageant (ce livre est tout de même paru en big 2020
