It was not as complex as I have come to expect from middle grade. The world is imaginative but the plot itself is not.

The plot is kicked off by a parent death and then depends on throwing the remaining parent into danger.

It's got all the classic middle grade fantasy steampunk adventure vibes. It feels like a Narnia, Lord of the Rings, Avatar the Last Airbender merge with steampunk elements. I first read this when I was like 14 or 15, because my brother brought the first two books in this series home from the library, and we both really loved it. We never finished the series, and I'm glad I stumbled upon it again, because it was just as great as I remember. I really like the characters and the art. Now to finish the rest of the series!

This is now our new favorite comic book! Kids have fallen in love with Emily, Navan, and Miskit!
The story is dynamic, the characters loveable and the drawings... oh my gosh the drawings are stunning! Every page is a piece of art!

I loved this book when I was younger and still do! This book gives me an overwhelming sense of nostalgia like with Percy Jackson. 10/10 would recommend.
