Wow wow wow.
I absolutely loved this book and even though I am 16 and not married and not thinking about getting married any time soon I somehow related to this.
TJR Will always be my favourite author

I really loved this book. I think it’s an easy read and it also teaches you a lot of lessons in just your independence, love and relationships. I enjoyed reading this and would definitely recommend!

3.5 stars!
After I Do is about the journey of marriage and falling back into love, while also self-reflecting. The two characters, Lauren and Ryan, fell in love at 19 and have been together for 11 years. Eventually they find themselves not being able to stand each other and decide to have a year break, instead of divorcing, to try and fix the marriage.

The first half of the book was so cute and sad because it showed them falling in love then out of love. Obviously marriage always has problems and no relationship is perfect so it was a really good demonstration of it. What I felt like was missing, though, was the character development of each character. I felt like the ending was so rushed, especially with the circumstances, and no one really changed. It went from them not standing each other then a year later they’re back in love?!

Don’t get me wrong, I love HEA’s but I just felt like there was so much more improvement needed, especially from Lauren’s side. Throughout the whole year break, I just didn’t feel like she was giving…. if that makes sense. Like there was a lot of personality problems, but I could also be overthinking it. I felt very connected to the characters in the beginning but then lost it towards the end because it was just a 180 switch.

Overall, I did really enjoy the book, but I hate rushed endings and minimum character development. It was still an enjoyable read and I loved reading about the side character/family bonds and the harsh side of marriage.

I’ve been enjoying reading through TJR’s backlist, but I didn’t plan to read this one as it didn’t sound like my cup of tea… and in many ways, it wasn’t. It’s not a subject I would reach for, but I find TJR’s earlier books really propulsive and get so emotionally invested.
This book swept me away, broke my heart, then put it back together. It was a good reminder to read outside of my comfort zone.
