I found this romance to be delightful. Partly because it is self-aware as the main character, Nora, makes a living as a romance script writer. It’s hard to criticize a novel for being formulaic when the novel self-criticizes the “Mad-Libs” romance writers: insert main character, their profession and location. Go! Nora and Leo, the movie star cast in her movie, get together as unexpected lovers, are pulled apart by a silly misunderstanding that causes angst, and well, I won’t spoil the ending, but I recommend this one. Breezy easy reading.

This is the first romance book I’ve picked up this year that I actually enjoyed and felt compelled to finish! Apparently, I really like romcoms where the main love interest is a celebrity that lands in a small town and lives among the normal people…. which is odd because I don’t tend to like Hollywood or many real celebrities! This is a perfect summer beach read and I plan to read more from this author.

I didn’t think I’d enjoy this as much as I did or that it would read so fast and smooth. The narrative writing style was slightly different than my other reads, but I can’t quite put my finger on why. I truly enjoyed the part in the beginning where she was just solo parenting and full of chaos and love. I felt a lot of that to my core, even as someone who coparents. Just parent life I guess. There were some parts where I’m like “oof, I need to be better”. I enjoyed the gentle romance that was on the page but kind of in a slow way. Even though it was a focus or the story, it didn’t over power the story. I was surprised by the falling out and the resolution. I wasn’t expecting the reasoning behind it all and that was refreshing…and then it just ended nicely and neatly. It was overall a better read than I was expecting!

DNF 25% into the book and I cannot stand the main characters. He walks into her home uninvited, eats/drinks whatever he wants, decides to live on her property because he’s having a crisis….as a woman who literally just got out of a relationship where her husband treated her like she didn’t matter and dominated everything about her life and who wrote an entire screenplay about how awful that was- wouldn’t this new guy’s behavior trigger her?? How would that cause her to be romantically interested in him?

And another thing, he makes fun of her in front of her kids multiple times and she just says in her head “it’s okay that I’m the butt of these jokes because the laughter breaks up the tension in the room” WTF??

I can’t keep reading. I’m getting too angry. This book is definitely not for me!

I couldn’t find a single fault with this book. I was gripped from the very first page and loved every second of it. It was a perfect light and fluffy romance.

It’s a rare occurrence that I prefer the FMC to the MMC but I just wasn’t vibing with Leo. I liked him but the ghosting really put me off, even when you do find out the reason, I didn’t feel sorry for him. Communication was lacking from him. One positive about Leo is that he put Nora’s kids first. I loved the bond they had.

Nora is a strong Queen, I absolutely love her. I loved that this story heavily involved her kids and we saw how strong their bond was. I found this book really empowering and it had no faults in my opinion.
