I've read this trilogy before and this was like wrapping myself in a warm hug.

I can't wait to see Inkheart this month (even though I never did go see Twilight!) because if the movie is anything like the book, I'll absolutely love it! Inkdeath is the final volume in Funke's trilogy about the Inkworld. Over the years, Mo and his daughter Meggie have traveled over to live in Inkworld, a fictitious world created by the writer Fenoglio. Mo has become The Bluejay (think Robin Hood) and the world is getting very dark. Everyone wonders how the story will end. The stinky Adderhead is slowly deteriating, thanks to the BlueJay's work, but the world is not a happy place. Funke seems to think her readers are grown up because of the violence and darkness. I also didn't like Meggie had to choose between two boys, when she played a larger role in the previous two books. This volume is all about Mo. But, hey, I still listened to all 20 hours of it!
adventurous slow-paced

The book was good but longer than it needed to be. It really felt like the series was dragging on for no reason. The was good character development during this novel and SO much development looking back over the trilogy. I enjoyed seeing Meggie adapt and grow up some in this book and moving away from what was expected of her and becoming her own person. Only thing holding this back was her and her mom being jealous of each other a few times in the book was just odd and made me uncomfortable. As with Inkspell, Mo is the main character of this book while Meggie has a supporting role. Elinor feels much like an afterthought in this book and could have been better either left out or embraced more.
There are multiple POVs for the book which I enjoyed and rounded the story out in a way that I don't feel could be accomplished otherwise but can make the main plot go a little slower. I found myself excited by the story line but constantly wishing the story would pick up and go faster. It was pretty frustrating at times.
Now knowing that there were originally German books the more Grimm fairy tale lean to the book make a lot more sense. The whole series mixes light with dark and weighs consequences for actions but this last installment leans more into the dark and Grimm brothers side of fantasy. I don't think it's so much so that it's inappropriate for young readers. I myself even enjoyed it and the darkness as a young reader. Children don't need to be babied and this was a good balanced book that shows yes the world can be dark sometimes but there are good people out there and community and helping each other is important.
This book got downgraded from a 4 mostly due to it's length and slower pace that made it drag on and reduced the enjoyment of reading.

About halfway through this one I switched to double speed. One of the big reasons I was rereading the series is because book 4 came out long after I had read it and I wanted to make sure there was nothing I missed. But I don't even remember finishing this book. I'm not sure what it was missing or what I wanted more of, but I think I wanted less of some things. Although I'm struggling to find the words as I write this. Still a fantastic story and I loved it but rereading on a as an adult was slightly disappointing. It did end up scratching the nostalgia itch that I had though!
