A slow start but picked up intrigue quickly as connections began to be drawn.

I was teetering between a 3 and a 4, mostly because the characters felt a bit flat and the story, while interesting, was a bit predictable as I got about halfway through. I like flawed characters and this book is definitely full of them, but they just weren't really written to make you feel sympathetic even though most of the characters lived very sad lives. But, it was still well written and overall an enjoyable read. Sadie's testimony and ending tied up in a neat little bow felt a bit pandering... But not enough to turn me off to the book overall.

Find me dreaming of living in a library now.

This book was just ok for me. The idea of living in the library for me was the most fascinating part of this book, especially a non traditional library like this one. I liked the flash back parts better than the current day story. Ultimately the story was too weak to keep my interest.

Fantastic Read. 4.5 Stars. Loved {almost} every second of it!

My only complaint is that it felt a little preachy sometimes. Otherwise, Love It!!

This was the perfect book for a weekend getaway.
It was page-turning while still being thought-provoking. Dual timeline which I loved.
I really connected with the 1914 main character who is a wife and mother longing for intellectual stimulation and a meaningful life.

4.5 stars A historical fiction book about a library? Count me in! I really enjoyed this mystery book and just when I thought I had solved it, I was wrong. Hoping I get to see the NYPL in person very soon
