Feels like all the relationships are angsty. Everyone is pining for someone they can't have. Shows a bad side to some previously likeable characters.

I really enjoyed the coming home arc to the epic story. Also I need to point out, this series is actually quite progressive for its time (this one was published 2008); prominent gay/bi characters and monogamy is the aberration. No pat happy endings really.

I preferred the first two instalments in this series, but while King's Shield was slower, I still enjoyed myself.

Inda is definitely an underrated fantasy series which deserves more readers. Especially readers who enjoy strong female characters who defend castles. If it weren't for Reddit's r/fantasy, I probably wouldn't have known about Inda for a very long time.

To get into Inda you have to be willing to learn the names of a huge cast of characters and to make it even more difficult most of them have several names (what is this, a Russian novel?). It almost put me off at first, but I'm glad I persevered, because ultimately you can trust the author to hold your hand and guide you through the plot and with time the important bits are revealed.

This series has everything: strong female characters, pirates, betrayals, treason, love, friendship, loyalty. It's got amazing, detailed, intricate world-building and refreshingly diverse characters.

I recommend it to every fantasy fan. Yes, all of you, every single one. Try this! It's worth it!

All of the Inda books have been interesting. There's a flavor or style to the writing and plotting that is unique. I haven't figured out how to describe it but I recently started Time of the Daughters which is another series in the same universe.

To me, it seems that the author is more interested in the arc of history as a whole and the twists and turns it takes. This is more pronounced in this second series where I just finished the first book mere minutes ago.

So I'll hold my review of that book and stay on topic.

spoilers be below:

The protagonist in this series is eventually revealed to be neurodivergent. I like this take. It makes more sense that these precocious genuises in conventional fantasy realms have a unique quality that allows them to become "the best ever" at a thing.

This series is willing to admit and somewhat wrestle with that reality which is appreciated.

Well, my opinion of this series keeps going down, and yet I will probably still read the last book because I want to know what happens. This book seemed to last forever and didn't cover much time but there still some good parts to it.
