What an absolutely amazing story. I laughed, I cried, I cheered. I would recommend this to anyone, if you're OK with some pretty gnarly gore, that is.

I wouldn't say i liked this book as a horror novel, but if you read it as a Romance with body horror elements and violence, it's pretty good! I like the setting and in general the protagonists are pleasant. It's not every day you get a romance with an 80 year old female lead. The antagonists felt really one-dimensional though, which I guess is to be expected from billionaires.

My oh my… good for her.

The Haar is a horror romance if I’ve ever read one! What a beautiful, sad, heartfelt story- covered in gore. I was so enamoured with this novel, it was a one sitting read for me.

When someone comes knocking on Muriel’s door with a purchase agreement in hand for her home, she knows just how to tell them where to go. However, the developers are persistent, and cruel. What can an 84 year old woman do? With a little help, she may be able to live in peace after all.

I loved this, what a bizarre and beautiful read!

I feel like I rarely come across stories that star a person in their 80’s, so right away this was an intriguing start. I really liked the protag, she was very likable yet rascally. I also like the monster and the idea that it wasn’t —maybe— a complete evil menace. The story is mostly campy since Evil Corporate Baddies are the real villain and they preen and act ridiculous as expected. They get their deserved comeuppance.

The story was really uneven for me, though. It started strong but it eventually got too eye-rolly. I was afraid my eyes would get stuck it happened so much! There was just so much dumb decision making going on, which is my least favorite trope with horror media. Common sense has no place and I often find that grating, especially when I think there’s a better way to write it.

The main thing saving this story was the excellent bloodshed. The author definitely shines in those moments. Visceral yet fun, every time.

It was decent, and at least it was brief. Just keep your eyes well lubricated before starting!
