1.5 stars. This was almost a DNF but I persevered. Every character was outrageously unlikable, there was too much repetition and the weird side plots thrown in for no apparent reason was just a waste of time. Chapters also had cliffhangers that really didn't amount to much.
A digital copy of this book was provided to me by Mikayla Davids. The opinions are my own and freely given.
The Bailey family has been together in years. Erin the middle daughter has left the family behind, married a wealthy man, had twins and now owns a boutique hotel in the English countryside. Every year she and her husband host a Christmas party at the hotel, and this year she invites her family to join them. She feels like it is time to makes amends and writes a personal letter to each of her sisters and mother and sends a swanky invitation.
Throughout the story, the oldest sister, who doesn't want to be there, but felt guilted by her mom, is having a difficult time. She gets drunk and disappears. Her younger sister keeps receiving threatening text messages. And her mom is just trying to bring the family back together.
In the beginning, two sisters are dancing and go to get some air, then they discover a body. You don't know which two sisters it is, nor do you find out who the body is. This book had me hooked from the beginning because I needed to know who was dead, and throughout the book, my mind was rolling trying to figure it out. This is part 1 in the Bailey Family Series, and leaves just enough open so you want to read #2 to find out what happens. Oh, then there is a #3 coming out in August 2024.
Thank you, Mikayla Davids. I can't wait to read more!

I’ve read books by this author before so I knew I was in for a great story. Three sisters separated for 10 years gather for one of the sisters fabulous Christmas parties. Told from multiple POV, you hear the full story. The setting is perfect. A remote house in the middle of winter with bad roads. Nothing can go wrong, right?!? I enjoyed the reunion and all the secrets in this story that will keep your turning the pages.
this book was recommended to me via my goodreads around the holidays -i just now got around to reading it but it was sadly nothing special. the writing lacks emotion, the characters are all flat, and it leaves a lot of untied, unneccesary ends. the plot tries to keep hinting at random secrets from the characters’ pasts to keep it interesting, and you think of course they’ll be touched on before the book ends, but they aren’t. there were several large paragraphs repeated word for word which led me to believe the book wasn’t edited at all for mistakes. not the worst book i’ve read but i wouldn’t recommend!
This is a multiple point of view suspense/thriller focusing on three estranged sisters, their mother, and their husbands. One of them ends up dead at the reconciliatory Christmas party and secrets are revealed, but even more secrets are kept hidden.
There are dual timelines occurring in this book — flashbacks to ten years ago that tell us why Erin is estranged from her family. I don’t want to give away any spoilers but we can tell almost right away Erin isn’t a good person…. I am just going to share that I think she’s crazy. Absolutely certifiable.
One issue I did have was that there was an epilogue followed by several more chapters, which I have never seen before. I’m not sure if that was a formatting error or not, but I have read a lot of books published in the UK and haven’t seen an ending done like that.
The story was overall attention grabbing and, side note!, while a lot of reviews seemed to really like Leah, I ended the book not trusting her, either…!!
If you like psychological thrillers and suspense, then this will be up your alley!
