Oh yeah I totally get why Cézanne stopped talking to Zola after the latter sent him a copy of the book.

This is another brilliant piece of Zola's own masterpiece, continuing to show his vibrant understanding of life and human psychology, constructing a picture of the intricacies of life. However, the thing which limits it for me is the familiarity I have with the subject matter. Whilst the history of department stores or rural politics or miners strikes are much more specialist subjects so much of the events are new to me. This blended biography of the key Impressionists meant I knew much of the direction the tale would be heading in.
Still another fine installment in the series.
