I liked this book. It has a lot of philosophy, political and anthropological, which made it interesting. The relationship is written well and insightfully, although the characters aren’t real seeming. That doesn’t seem to matter, since it’s as much a book about ideas as Atlas Shrugged, although it blows in the opposite direction.

The female character was also very interesting. Considering she is written by a man, she’s pretty depthy. An example of a male-written, strong, female main character. Rare?

The ending has been criticized as a fallback, a reversal of the character’s feminist ideals. I don’t feel it detracts from her personality, rather, it fits her mental momentum, for me. Powerful.

It started off by insulting people, and I just don't want to go that direction. I can watch the news if I want to learn about people behaving poorly. When I read a book, I want a good story.

The single worst book I’ve ever read. I got 75% of the way through and am still angry.

Weird cover, but an interesting and unusual take on utopia, set in Botswana.

I only started this book because it was chosen for book club, otherwise, I don't think I would have ever tried to read it. It was written like a non-fiction book, which I liked, I just had more exciting books to read.

The narrator of this novel is one of my favorite fictional characters of all time.

Wow, this took me an insanely long time to finish. Partly because this was my "public transportation" read and then I stopped taking transportation weekly.... but also partly because it really didn't keep my attention all that well. It kept my attention well enough to finish, but not well enough to love it.
