In summary I feel like this book is about a man getting hurt once, choosing to hurt everybody else afterwards and getting off on it even though the reason he got “hurt” the first time was his own fault, and then getting a little taste of his own medicine too. I had a lot of “wtf” moments and a few laughs due to dark humor. Being only 151 pages it’s a super quick read that kept me interested until the end because I wanted to understand the point and know what would happen.

Personally I get drawn into stuff like this because I’m always curious to understand the minds of fucked up people. On the flip side I feel like the more I try to understand troubled characters the more conflicted I feel.

The #1 complaint I see in other reviews is how “horrible the narrator is” I mean yeah… He’s an addict who is also giving sadistic psychopathic narcissist who needs to seek serious help. Why we are giving a book a shitty rating because the MC is shitty is crazy to me because sometimes that’s the literal point of the book. You don’t have to like him and maybe it’s not your thing but the book itself is good. It’s a “diary” of a mad man essentially.

This book is quite literally one of the most difficult books to get through. The actual writing is awful and there really no point to the story. The main character and author I’m assuming is whiny and annoying throughout the whole book. Honestly almost DNF the writing was so bad. The main character when on many tangents about unimportant information that doesn’t help progress the story.

It was really disturbing of how a person would think of hurting girls like that. As Jack Edwards said “it wants to be like Lolita so bad”. It fails to explore the women in another way other than them being commodities.

Interesting to see in the mind of a narcissist, but very slow and pretty boring. You’re grabbed in by the first lines of the book, but it goes away shortly after. It’s not fiction and the authors true story, but didn’t hold up to the grab the first lines/pages held.

honestly the problem with this book for me wasn’t even the narrator being a raging misogynistic/narcissistic sexual predator because i felt like that was kind of supposed to be the point (though it definitely wasn’t executed well). the main thing with it is that i just got so BORED. like it was interesting for the first couple chapters then you get to where he moves to minnesota and all he talks about is how it’s cold there for like 20 pages and like. i’m from minnesota myself and yes our winters are brutal but oh my god WE GET IT. this book is 150 pages and it feels like 500. i hate not finishing books so maybe i’ll come back to it but for now i just. i can’t do it. two stars because the cover and title are so good and i like the concept but it was just done so badly.
