I think I need to reread this physically. I loved the first book but I did not connect with the audiobook narrator for some reason.

It’s incredibly rare for me to give a second book in a series anything higher than three stars. If I’m honest, this book started that way… but Dennard made some amazing plot twists that brought this book up and up. This was the perfect continuation of the series. There was so much growth in all the characters that it was almost scary! The magic changes were incredibly unique. The characters arcs were all so impressively done - to have that much change and growth in one book was impressive. Absolutely recommending this series to anyone who will listen!

I really enjoyed this second installment, as I can see significant character development and world expansion. It didn't have the most enthralling plotline but it's clearly setting up a great series. Can't wait for the next one!

A little slow, and I was definitely missing the Iseult and Safi interaction from the first book. However, I did enjoy the amount of time we got to spend with Iseult and Aeduan - these were my favorite parts of the book for sure.

Also completely lack of Merik/Safi left me very sad. I mean, it was unavoidable because they were apart the whole time, but I NEED more of this ship, please.

Overall, I’m definitely looking forward to picking up the next installment, even if this wasn’t quite as good as Truthwitch.

I thought that this was a very, very good book. It certainly expanded upon the world, and it expanded the scope of the character's destiny's as well. I found the different points of view fascinating, and the truths that were revealed were both exhilarating and heartbreaking. I loved how Safi went to the end of the world and back, and how in the process, she met new friends and allies and was able to make a choice for herself. I loved the scenes between Iseult and Aeudan. There is a bond there that I hope will be explored even further in the third book. I found Merik's storyline to be absolutely puzzling while I was reading it, and yet once the truth was revealed I was both heartbroken and intrigued to see what will happen next. Vivia was perhaps the one character that surprised me the most. I got Azula vibes from her almost the entire way... but once her true motivations were shown, and her true feelings were revealed I realized that she might just be one of my favourite characters in the book-- a character who is strong, determined, and willing to do anything and everything to save her people.

I know that Windwitch was a struggle for Susan Dennard to write, she has said as much over social media. But I believe that whatever problems plagued her in the writing of this sequel were well worth it because the depth and strength of the characters, plot and story are just astounding. I wish that I had the third book to read right this moment but I suppose that I will have to wait.

I was actually slightly disappointed. It was okay. I just didn't LOVE it.
