I don’t often cry when I read but this one had the tears flowing. Maybe it’s because I just lost my grandpa last year, I don’t know. It’s just a beautiful story and tribute to the author’s own grandfather as I understand. I think anyone who has experienced such a loss, especially one involving dementia or Alzheimer’s, will feel this in their soul.

A simultaneously heartbreaking and heartwarming novella that’s sure to strike a chord with anyone who’s watched an elderly relative start to lose their memory.

The novel is incredibly sweet and paints a beautiful picture of a loving, though dysfunctional, family in a very short time.

The Backman cry count is at 2.

Short but oh so achingly sweet. I have a soft spot for any story that involves old people and grandparents and this one did not just tug but yanked at my heartstrings. Fredrik Backman truly has a way with words and this emotional beautiful novella got me highlighting lines like a student cramming for an exam. Such a wisdom-filled story about love, fear, life, acceptance and death. I hate that I postponed reading this. Cannot recommend this enough.

I never read or listen to short stories, but I am so glad I listened to this one. The story is wonderful and the narrator brings it to life.
