Full disclosure: I loved her book Garden Spells and this picks up on the characters ten years later. I am completely incapable of judging whether anyone else would like this. It's not deep, challenging literature. It's not even that the prose is flowing and exceptional. It's a great story to read on your front porch, or in a comfy chair with a cat on your lap, or wherever your happy place is. If you haven't read Garden Spells, you should. And, if you love it with an irrational love, then you'll like First Frost.

I enjoyed this one. I wasn't enraptured as I was by her early books, but it was nice to be back in North Carolina and in the magical world of the Waverlys, since Lost Lake just wasn't my thing. There was definitely some insightful bits and good imagery. Still, even if the early magic isn't lost, it's like it's simmering away. Can't wait for Allen to come back to a boil!

The fine print: received ARC from NetGalley.

Beautiful. Once again, Sarah Addison Allen has created a lovely piece of work that leaves me wanting more.

Enjoy these lighthearted books. Hope there is more to come from the Waverly sisters.

At this point, Sarah Addison Allen novels are predictable to the point of no longer being fun. Unfortunately, she has done what many authors do, and created her own cliches. Also unfortunately, she uses them to the point of nausea. I will not be reading any more of her novels.

What a wonderful story about life, magic and finding/knowing exactly where you belong. Evanelle in this book reminded me a lot of my grandma. She was 89 with congestive heat failure too but more importantly my grandma always had a bag with her. I think her magic though was that instead of carrying the right objects for the right people her bag magically camp up with whatever was needed. That’s something this book made me realize. We are all a little strange and we all have a little magic if he are willing to look for and use it. ❤️

An excellent follow up to Garden Spells, this novel takes place about 10 years later and focuses even more on characters surrounding the sisters, including their daughters and mother. Allen’s storytelling skills are at full display, and the magical realism is a pleasant escape.

A nice read, but not as good as her others.

Fun, fast read. You don't need to have read the first book in the series but it does bring back all the main characters.
