Ellie and I read a chapter a night together and had some great talks about this next phase of life.

Felt like this book was a great introduction to puberty and the changes a body goes through in a very positive way. It opened a lot of doors for further conversations with my daughter. We've read through it multiple times to see what other questions come up as we go through this process.

"Celebrate Your Body (and it's Changes Too!) by Sonya Renee Taylor, author of "The Body is Not an Apology" (also, her instagram of the same name is just... amazing)

I bought this for my daughter when she was 9, because after looking at a lot of books about puberty for girls, I found this one to be the most informative, without some of the subtle (or even outright overt) body shaming, white-centric, hetero-normative themes of other books.

It talks about EVERYTHING from how to deal with friendships and crushes (and it doesn't focus on only hetero crushes/relationships), personal grooming (I appreciated that it talks about all textures of hair, and that shaving is a personal choice) and ALL the physical and emotional changes that come with changing bodies in a matter of fact way.

It does not really discuss masturbation, intercourse, STDs, pregnancy etc. so you may want other books like "It's Not the Stork" or "It's So Amazing" (both by Robie H. Harris and Michael Emberley) if your child wants more information on those topics.

I appreciated that this book represents a lot of diverse body types, and reinforces that everyone has a "good body." This is the book I wish I would have been able to read when I was a tween in the late 80s/early 90s - I definitely cried a couple times at how affirming it was.

Read with my soon to be 8 year old who is just starting to show signs of puberty. Loved the body positive framing and she loved all the pro-girl language. Helped her learn more about the process and her body and not to fear the process. Put her mind at ease.

This book is full of great information for young girls. I like the language it uses and the way it celebrates the changes that happen during puberty that can be overwhelming and scary for young girls.

Such a good and detailed book.

Got this book for my daughter when she was a pre-teen.  Great book.
funny informative medium-paced

After finally finishing reading the book aloud with my daughter, I have to say we loved it! I love how positive the language is throughout and only wish this book existed when I was a young girl. I’m glad that it’s here now. I’m also glad that this book introduced me to the work of Sonya Renee Taylor in general.
informative lighthearted fast-paced

This was a really great, easy to read, body positive book about puberty that I will happily pass along to my daughter.
