I don't know if it's a result of the translation, but some of the stories have really stilted dialogue that distracts from their creepiness. The Frankenstein adaptation is the best of the lot; suitably chilling (and not overly gory, but there are depictions of body parts and violence).

A weaker retelling, I would recommend reading the original Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. But the artwork is amazing as is always the case with Junji Ito, so if you go into it for that, I don't think that you will be disappointed.

Loved the art style and the quick pacing of all of the stories, horror is better in small doses, usually.
I especially like how the Oshikiri stories are connected but not, all at the same time. I don't like his incel vibes in the earlier versions though
The dog story is great as well.

The first half is the story of Frankenstein and the rest is a collection of stories.  Art is a 10/10 as always, he is a master at horror.

This is my first Junji Ito. I had high expectations since his works are always highly praised. The artwork for Frankenstein is really beautiful and detailed but the story was underwhelming. On the contrary, the artworks for the side stories are less impressive but the stories themselves were very enjoyable and I really liked it.
