I love the graphic novel versions of I survived ! Such a great idea. This was a great, suspenseful, scary read.

This is the second book of the “I Survived” series that I have read to my six-year-old daughter. Her review will follow. It seems that I have heard of most of the stories involved in this book series (like the Titanic, Japanese tsunami of 2011, etc.) but I haven’t heard of the shark attacks of 1916. So, it was cool to learn about something new. The story is good for kids (my nine-year-old boy also listened in on the story and enjoyed it). These books seem to follow a similar pattern – talk about an historic event, add a fake side-story that kids might like that could be slightly scary, then merge them together. I do not necessarily like this approach too much but if my kids like then I suppose I like it. My six-year-old’s review will follow.

Jovie’s review:
Chet pretended he was a monster. The boys got mad at him. Chet ran into a shark. He told his friends. There were pirates in the creek. I loved the book. It has sharks, and a silly monster, and ketchup that was on the deck, and Chet yelling when he was playing his little trick.
